Julia Nurse

Birth and Postpartum Doula

I come to this work with a reverence for community and the belief that knowledge is power. There are so many unknowns when it comes to birth and parenthood and I want the families I work with to feel supported every step of the way.

Sharing resources is one my love languages, whether it's a podcast to empower or an article on evidenced based information that will help you make a decision, I love helping my clients feel informed of their options by providing expert guidance and great resources.

I am often described as having a calming energy and demeanor. I bring a thoughtful, heart centered, and trauma informed approach to every family I meet with because I know birth and parenthood can be a vulnerable and sensitive time that deserve personalized care to you and your history.

Being raised in an Irish Catholic family with eleven siblings has taught me the importance of community and the power of women supporting one another. My mother, Jeanne, birthed and raised her twelve children with so much love - she is my inspiration and guide in everything that I do.

I have always been fascinated with the life experiences of women, and I am passionate about helping all birthing people navigate this pivotal moment in their lives. As a doula, I am committed to creating a space where families feel supported, informed, and empowered throughout their birthing journey.

My work is rooted in honoring the wisdom and strength of women, just as my mother did for our family, and I strive to offer care that is nurturing, intuitive, and respectful of each individual's unique experience. It is my goal to hold space for others in the same way that my mother and sisters have held space for me, fostering connection and support during this significant time in your life.

Growing up in Maine fostered my love of nature as I played in the forests and rivers as a child - and while I miss the abundance of lakes there I love calling San Francisco my home. In my free time I’ll be hiking on the beautiful trails all over the bay, in the ceramics studio working on a new creation or cozying up with a cup of herbal tea and a book.

I look forward to meeting you!

Sacred Cycles

“When we enter the world of birth, we step across the threshold from the mundane to the sacred. Pregnancy and birth are a space between worlds — a liminal space — a place where you are no longer not a parent and not yet one either. This betwixt and between is sacred space within which powerful and profound events occur — often uninvited.”

-Britta Bushnell, Transformed By Birth
